How to install and use your Korean font
Your download is a standard .otf font file. Install it once and it shows up in the font menu of most apps, named "My Korean Font" followed by a four-letter code.
Before you start
- The font contains Korean letters only: the 2,350 most common Korean syllables plus single jamo like ㅋ and ㅠ. English text will show in the app's usual font.
- Every style you make gets its own code, such as "My Korean Font 92A9", so you can install several side by side.
Windows
- Open your Downloads folder and double-click the
.otffile. - Click Install. To install it for every user on the computer, right-click the file instead and choose Install for all users.
- Close and reopen any app that was already running so it notices the new font.
Mac
- Double-click the
.otffile. Font Book opens with a preview. - Click Install.
- Reopen your apps, and the font appears in their font menus.
iPhone and iPad
iOS does not install font files with a simple double-tap. You have two options:
- Inside one app: apps such as Procreate let you import a font file directly (see below).
- Everywhere: use a font installer app from the App Store. It installs the font so that apps like Pages and Keynote can use it, and you will find it under Settings › General › Fonts.
Using it in your favourite apps
Word, Pages, Photoshop, Illustrator
Once the font is installed on your computer, pick "My Korean Font" from the font list and type or paste Korean text.
Canva
Uploading your own fonts to Canva needs a paid Canva plan. Go to Brand › Brand
Kit › Fonts and upload the .otf file. On a free plan, download a
PNG from My Korean Font instead and add it to your design as an image.
Cricut Design Space
Design Space uses the fonts installed on your computer. Install the font first, restart Design Space, then add text and pick the font under System fonts. Choose Korean text you are sure of: cut vinyl is hard to undo.
Procreate
Save the font to the Files app, then in Procreate add text, tap it to edit the style, and choose Import Font.
Google Docs
Google Docs only offers its own font library and does not accept uploaded fonts. Use a PNG from My Korean Font instead and insert it as an image.
How to type Korean
The easiest way is to translate your words and paste the Korean. If you want to type it yourself:
- Windows: Settings › Time & language › Language & region › Add a language › Korean. Switch keyboards with Windows + Space.
- Mac: System Settings › Keyboard › Text Input › Edit › add Korean – 2-Set Korean.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard › Korean.
